“Komen’s grants have been a lifesaver for many women who don’t have
insurance. The no-cost mammograms help us catch cancer earlier,
when it’s easiest to treat.”
Hematologist and Oncologist, Methodist Dallas
and Methodist Charlton Medical Centers
— Cheryl Harth, MD, FACP
Jennie Johnson Talton found herself getting a mammogram
on a large bus outside a church in Cedar Hill. She had
found a lump under her left breast a few days earlier and was
referred to Methodist Health System’s mobile mammography
unit, which has brought lifesaving screenings directly to the
underserved women of Dallas County for more than a decade.
Talton considers herself one of those lives saved. Her last radiation treatment
was June 28, 2013, and now she is cancer-free and looking forward to
returning to work as a caregiver.
We thank the Dallas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen
®
for the Cure for supporting
breast health services at Methodist Dallas and Methodist Charlton
Medical Centers for 13 years. In 2013, we received our largest Komen
grant to date, which included additional funding provided through Komen’s
national campaign with Walgreens.
Also helping in the stand against breast cancer, Panera Bread
®
supported
breast health services through its 2013 Pink Ribbon Bagel
®
Promotion.
“Without these donors, I don’t know what I would have done,” Talton says.
“I’m thankful there are people out there who want to open up their hearts
to help others.”
